BFA Capstone Exhibition

Scaled Down

This work is a collection of self within identity and the body. These sculptural forms are a collaboration bashing together elements of identity as a physical implementation and metaphorical concept of the building of self. A childhood bound in dirt, bugs, skirts, and dolls inspire the artist to construct works of absurdity and expression. To the artist, Capstone is an accumulation of skills and therefore a project built around sculpting, painting, sewing, woodwork, and stained glass. In recently unboxing childhood dolls from storage among other nostalgia from the revival in media of games, content creators, movies, and toys, the artist has built a mini universe pulling pieces from childhood. The artist has owned a variety of reptiles, worked alongside them as a volunteer, and spent years living in Florida alongside the abundance of native species. In this absurd collage of identity compounding beautiful vinyl forms with wild scaly works, the self is formulated, articulated, and spoken of.
